Description

The pink stuff. Pepto Bismol Original liquid, 8 fl oz (236 mL), dose cup included.

Drug Facts: bismuth subsalicylate 525 mg per 30 mL dose. Purpose: upset stomach reliever and antidiarrheal. The label’s uses: relieves traveler’s diarrhea, diarrhea, and upset stomach due to overindulgence in food and drink, including heartburn, indigestion, nausea, gas, belching, and fullness.

Directions: shake well and use only the dose cup. Adults and children 12 and over: 30 mL every half hour, or 60 mL every hour, as needed for diarrhea; 30 mL every half hour as needed for overindulgence. No more than 8 doses (240 mL) in 24 hours, and not more than 2 days. Under 12: ask a doctor. Drink plenty of clear fluids.

It contains salicylate, so don’t take it if you’re allergic to aspirin, and read the Reye’s syndrome warning for kids and teens recovering from chicken pox or flu. A harmless dark tongue or stool can happen. Ask our pharmacist if you take blood thinners or diabetes, gout, or arthritis medication.
