We’re Opening a New Pharmacy in Madison This September

Madison has no shortage of places to fill a prescription. What it’s short on is pharmacies where the pharmacist knows your name, your refill is ready in ten or fifteen minutes, and the price at the register is the price you expected.

That’s the pharmacy we’re building. Qual-i-tee opens this September in The Boulevard Shopping Center at 3304 University Avenue, on Madison’s near west side. Here’s what we’re doing, and why we think a neighborhood pharmacy can still feel the way you remember.

Why another pharmacy in Madison?

Not another one. A different one.

If you’ve picked up a prescription in Madison lately, you know the routine. Your prescription gets filled at a central warehouse and arrives at the store days later. The phone tree doesn’t have a button for your actual question. The line at the counter is long because the person behind it is doing the work of three people.

None of that happened because pharmacists stopped caring. It happened because the economics of chain pharmacies and insurance companies stopped leaving room for care. Our founding pharmacist, Ryan Bender, has spent more than 25 years in community pharmacy watching it happen: good pharmacists with less and less time for the people in front of them.

Qual-i-tee Pharmacy is his answer. An independent pharmacy in Madison built around the patient, not the insurance company.

What Direct-Pay Means (and What It Costs)

We don’t bill insurance for prescriptions. You pay us directly, and in exchange the whole experience gets simpler. Most maintenance medications run $10 to $13 for a month’s supply and most creams and antibiotics are $16 20 $24 For most people, that lands at or under a typical copay.

For some people with unusually good drug coverage, such as those whose copays are $0, our prices will be higher. Yet, many people find that there is a hidden cost to getting such low prices, so we’ll let you figure out if the savings in time with fewer trips to the pharmacy, the safety and convenience of free pouch packaging, the comfort of knowing the person who fills your prescription, and the ability be able to reach someone and ask a question are worth the extra expense.

Vaccines are the one exception. If you’re 65 or older, we can bill Medicare Part B for flu, COVID, and pneumococcal vaccines. If you’re under 65 with commercial insurance, such as Navitus, Quartz or Dean, your routine vaccines are covered.

What You‘ll Find When the Doors Open

A prescription counter where a new prescription is typically ready in ten to fifteen minutes, Rapid testing for strep, flu, COVID, and RSV, with results in about fifteen minutes. If you need a prescription, it’s filled before you leave. Compounded medications for the doses and forms that aren’t manufactured. Free pouch  packaging that sorts your medications, including supplements and over-the-counter items,  by day and dose, so “did I already take that?” stops being a daily question.

Beyond the counter: a retail floor of supplements and skincare selected by a pharmacist, not a marketing team, and a private consultation room with a door, for the questions that are too small for a doctor’s appointment and too important to google.

Getting it home is flexible, too. Curbside if there’s a sleeping toddler in the back seat. Local delivery across the Madison area.

You’ll find us at 3304 University Avenue in The Boulevard Shopping Center, on one of Madison’s busiest west-side corridors. Parking is easy, and we’re a quick trip from Shorewood Hills, Hill Farms, Sunset Village, and the rest of the near west side. If you’re coming from farther out, we’re minutes off the Beltline via Midvale Boulevard or Whitney Way.
