Description
The large size of Baudelaire’s wool sea sponge, about 5.5″ across, in a gift box that tells the story of where it came from. (The box has won awards. The sponge has not, but it’s not that kind of sponge.)
Wool sea sponges are the soft, dense kind, harvested by hand in the Gulf of Mexico. A sponge is an animal, technically, and a renewable one: these are collected in a way that lets the beds regrow, and the sponge itself is biodegradable when you’re finally done with it.
Compared to a synthetic sponge or a loofah, it’s softer, holds more water, and exfoliates lightly without scratching.
Care: squeeze it out after the bath and keep it somewhere it can dry. A natural sponge air-dries completely and, looked after that way, lasts for years.
Baudelaire has been putting together bath and body goods from a small town in Swanzey, New Hampshire, for more than 35 years. A loose 4.5″ sponge is on the shelf too if you’d rather skip the box.
